HANGING CHURCH ⛪️
The Hanging Church is considered the oldest church in the area of Al-Fustat ( Old Egypt ) it’s known as Al-Muallka ( the Hanging) recanted it was built on the ruins of two old towers which that remained from an old fortress called fortress of Babylon it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Dimiana it has been reconstructed and renovated several times since 3rd 🥉 century AD
Historians believe that it was built earlier and it might have been a Roman Temple and later converted into a Roman Church and then became Coptic Church
ABU SERGA
The Church of Abu Serga it was probably one of the Churches the Roman garrison built in their Fortress after the evacuation of the Roman military forces when the Arabs conquered Egypt in 641 A.D the Copts turned the structure into Coptic Church the crypt under the Church was the resting place of Mary and the Christ child on their arrival in Egypt
SAINT SIMEON
Saint Simeon Al-Kharaz also known as Simeon Al-Dabbagh lived in tenth century in Egypt
Coptic heritage tells of him that he worked in tanning leather and in making and repairing shoes he was pious and good man. One day a woman came to his shop to offer him her shoes so he could repair them for her while she was taking them off Simon’s eyes fell on her leg and he lusted after her immediately he gouged out his own eye with an awls
